Port of Ridgefield

RCC: Please give a little background or history on your business, and describe the business/services.

The Port of Ridgefield is situated along the I-5 corridor in the fast-growing suburb of the Portland-Vancouver Metro region. Operating as a public port district in Washington State, it aims to promote economic prosperity for the region and enhance the quality of life for the Ridgefield community. Since 1940 the Port has remained dedicated to its visionary goals of growing local businesses, creating quality jobs, and developing the area's rich landscape and waterfront. Today, the Port offers high-quality facilities and prime property in the rapidly growing region, and supports the enhancement of community benefits through the management and development of public access spaces. With a history of successfully tackling complex challenges, the Port continues to plan for development projects that will support the local economy and expand services and opportunities for Ridgefield residents. Whether it is investing in properties to attract businesses, generating opportunities for high-wage jobs, or responsibly developing land and waterfront, the Port of Ridgefield remains dedicated to preserving and enhancing quality of life for citizens of the greater Ridgefield area.

RCC: Please share some highlights about your business – unique offerings, employee benefits, community involvement – things you’re proud of that stand out.

The Port of Ridgefield is a public economic engine for Ridgefield, providing services and facilities that support jobs, stewardship, and community benefit. Since its establishment by Ridgefield voters in 1940, the Port has helped create 3,600 jobs, developed 249 acres for public benefit, and returned $550 million in economic benefit to the community and region. The Port has several projects underway, including revitalization of the 40-acre Ridgefield Waterfront; planning and design of Oak Ridge Business Park, a new light-industrial facility for small business; and analysis and planning for the Greely Building, a century-old brick building in the heart of downtown Ridgefield. These projects support the Port's mission to responsibly develop land and facilities that encourage private investment, job creation and local economic diversity. In 2026, the Port will host several public engagement opportunities for community members to learn more about our purpose, history, projects, and public benefits, and to share their questions and priorities with staff and elected Commissioners. Stay tuned to the Port's website and Facebook page for dates and locations throughout the year.

RCC: What do you like most about being part of the Ridgefield community? (If you’re located outside of Ridgefield, please talk a little bit about how your business ties into the area).

One of the things we appreciate the most about Ridgefield is its strong sense of community and its dedicated network of partners who work together to make life better for everyone. The Port is honored to be part of this network, along with the City of Ridgefield, Ridgefield Main Street, the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce, Ridgefield School District, Ridgefield Art Association, Port tenants, local businesses, and many others - all local people giving their time and energy to make Ridgefield the best community it can be. We are also part of regional partnerships with the other two ports in Clark County - the Port of Vancouver USA and Port of Camas-Washougal - as well as the Columbia River Economic Development Council. Together, these local and regional partnerships improve the business ecosystem and economic conditions for the county and Southwest Washington. These are the kinds of partnerships that make our communities and region wonderful places to live, work, learn and play, helping generations of families and businesses thrive.

The Port has long been a champion for businesses of all sizes. Right now, we are excited to be focusing more on small businesses as we plan and develop the new Oak Ridge Business Park near I-5, just south of Pioneer Street. This 20,000-square-foot facility will help fill a gap in available space for small and microbusinesses, offering 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot, flexible suites that help the smallest businesses grow and meet their vision. Ridgefield has lots of space for larger businesses, but this kind of high-quality, smaller facility is missing, and the Port is uniquely positioned to address this need to help grow more businesses and jobs here in our community. We expect the facility to be under construction in 2027 and ready for tenants in 2028.
